What's in an AlphaDogDNA Report?
Behavior Traits
Genetic variants influence behavior and, in some cases, may alter it entirely. However, some of these findings are preliminary (early discovery) and may not apply to all breed populations or situations. These traits are also labeled as "Early Discovery Traits" in the report and should involve your observations along with any known history/experience for your dog. Behaviors are strongly influenced by the handler and home environment.
Coat & Color Traits
These traits are primarily determined by genetics, though environmental factors like weather, illness, or undiscovered mutations may cause variations.
Physical Traits
Genetic variants affect both physical appearance and behavior, but some traits should be considered preliminary findings due to limited research. These are labeled as "Early Discovery Traits" in the report. Some traits will be definitive and easily observed (such as short legs or brachycephaly) while others may be influential or require additional genes or environmental triggers (such as ear or tail shape).
Health Traits
These results are primarily influenced by genetics and breeding, with some traits are causative and others indicate risk associations, tendencies or predispositions. "Causative" health traits will cause the dog to experience symptoms of the health condition or issue, whereas "risk associations" are correlated with a condition/issue and may result in the dog being at an increased risk for that health exposure or condition.
